BUFFALO, NY - The Erie County Water Authority (ECWA) has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This award recognizes ECWA's ability to effectively communicate a clear financial story in its annual financial report (CAFR).

The GFOA Certificate of Achievement is the highest award in the area of governmental accounting and finance reporting, with its attainment representing significant transparency and communication accomplishments by a government and its management.

"This award is a result of the exceptional work of all staff involved in creating this year's report," said Earl Jann, ECWA Executive Director. "Their professionalism and dedication to serving our customers is evident by the tremendous feat this award exemplifies."

The CAFR Program was created by GFOA in 1945 to encourage state and local governments to exceed minimum annual financial reporting requirements in the spirit of increasing practices of transparency and disclosure.

About the ECWA: The Erie County Water Authority is an independent, public water utility that provides safe, clean drinking water to more than 550,000 consumers in 35 municipalities throughout Western New York that rely on its product and reliable service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
