Meter Readings

Your water meter measures the amount of water you are using, and ECWA uses those readings to determine how much you are charged on your water bill. Providing accurate meter readings on time can help you avoid estimated bills, eliminate the need for arranging appointments and control meter reading costs. Reading your meter regularly is also a good way to monitor your water use or check for suspected leaks.

Safety first: ask for identification!

Although rare, impersonators have appeared at customers’ doors claiming to need to test the water or read the meter. If a person comes to your door claiming to be an ECWA employee, DO NOT let them in without first checking their identification.

  • Our employees carry an ID card with their picture on it.
  • Our meter readers also wear blue uniforms with an ECWA logo.
  • ECWA vehicles are white with an ECWA logo on the side.

Also, if you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from the ECWA and you aren't sure it’s actually a call from us, call our Customer Service department at (716) 849-8484 to verify the information you were given. We will be able to tell you if it was a hoax.

Here are the options for providing your water meter readings to us:

  • Enter your reading online at "Your Account."
  • Call (716) 849-8426 to phone in your reading via our 24/7 automated system.

Our personnel will attempt to obtain a meter reading at your location once a year.

Update your history anytime.

If you miss your meter reading deadline, no problem! Simply call in your reading to (716) 849-8426 24/7 to update your usage history.  Please note your reading might not be reflected on your bill until the next cycle.

If you have a remote (outside) meter.

If you still have a remote (outside) meter, we ask that you continue to read and submit your readings to us.
