ECWA RELEASES 2023 ANNUAL WATER QUALITY REPORT
Report shows ECWA drinking water is safe and of high quality
BUFFALO, NEW YORK – The Erie County Water Authority (ECWA) has released its 2023 Annual Water Quality Report (AWQR). The report fulfills the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) requirement for ECWA to annually prepare and deliver customers a report showing the safety and quality of their drinking water.
“ECWA continues to meet or exceed the highest standards for drinking water quality,” said ECWA Chairman Jerome Schad. “Our annual water quality report provides that information directly to customers and confirms they receiving dependable, clean, safe drinking water.”
The EPA sets national standards for drinking water quality. In New York, the State Health Department enforces the EPA’s regulations and often imposes stricter standards for some regulated contaminants.
“New York State has among the highest standards for drinking water quality in the country,” said ECWA Director of Water Quality Sabrina Figler. “In many cases, the State Health Department’s requirements are even more rigorous than the EPA’s, and the state regularly makes its requirements more stringent.”
The ECWA conducts extensive water quality monitoring and testing every day to make certain all federal and state drinking water regulations are met.
“Our nationally recognized water quality team of experts utilize state-of-the-art technology and equipment to test our water 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,” Figler said. “With PFAs and other potentially harmful contaminants impacting communities across the country, ECWA’s customers can be confident they are receiving among the safest drinking water in the country right here in Erie County.”
