**THIS IS A PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT AND IS SUBJECT TO A CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION PRIOR TO ANY PERMANENT APPOINTMENT**

The work involves sub-professional work at the entrance level involving office and field responsibility for the drafting of plans, details, charts and graphs from design and survey material. The work is performed under the direct supervision of an engineering employee of higher rank and the general supervision of the Distribution Engineer. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Plots, and drafts easements, subdivisions and other information, locates water mains and appurtenances from plans, aerial, field and survey data;
  • Revises maps according to changed property lines, roads, water mains and other developments;
  • Drafts and traces maps and charts of prospective projects and compiles specifications and contract documents for them;
  • Performs other plotting and drafting duties as assigned;
  • Secures field information on location of water mains and appurtenances and records data in files; Index and file prints and tracings of past, present and future projects;
  • Operates and cleans office and field equipment, which is related to duties; Performs assigned duties as a member of a survey team.
  • Performs other related duties in the office or field.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Working knowledge of engineering field and survey techniques; working knowledge of drafting tools and techniques as applied to engineering; working knowledge of mathematics as applied to engineering; ability to make simple arithmetic computations with a high degree of accuracy; good knowledge of the techniques of graphic illustrations; ability to interpret statistical data and to plot data in map, graph or chart form; ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions; initiative and resourcefulness; industry and dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school, with courses in mathematics and drafting.
