DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves responsibility for performing a variety of semi-skilled preventative maintenance and operation procedures for pumps and auxiliary equipment at pump stations and wastewater treatment plant facilities. An employee in this class has responsibility on an assigned shift, for maintaining the effective operation of pumps and auxiliary equipment, on-site or remotely, through performance of tasks involved in a preventative maintenance program. Primary emphasis is given to procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation of a variety of pumps, compressors and auxiliary equipment. Assignments and direct supervision are received orally from charge operators. Between rounds, work is performed in accordance with established procedures and telephone communication. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Some knowledge of the functions and operation principles of pumps, valves and other mechanical equipment. Some knowledge of safety and precautions in work. Ability to read and write. Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six (6) months of work experience, or its part time equivalent, involved in the operation, maintenance or repair of electric pumps, compressors or auxiliary equipment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid Class D Operator's License issued by the State of New York at time of appointment.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full time experience requirements.
