Salary Range: $135,191.68 - $151,889.92
DISTINGUISHED FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is a major engineering and supervisory position involving responsibility for the application of experience and skills in construction operations and maintenance of the water production system. The incumbent acts as staff engineer and is also involved in staff activities related to agency-wide planning. The work is performed under the general supervision of higher-ranking professional employees in accordance with established policy, with broad leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment. Supervision is exercised over a number of professional and technical employees. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of modern principles and practices of hydraulic engineering as applied to the design and construction of water treatment and pumping operations; thorough knowledge of the principles of sanitary engineering as related to water production; thorough knowledge of the equipment and methods used in large scale water treatment and pumping operations; ability to establish good working relationships with consulting engineers, contractors, public officials and others; ability to plan and design treatment and pumping facilities to assure continued water supplies and to prevent emergencies; ability to coordinate the work of a large number of employees in varying activities; ability to address lay and professional groups on technical subjects in understandable language; ability to prepare clear and concise reports of costs; initiative; resourcefulness; sound professional judgment; good physical condition.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Master’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Sanitary Engineering or closely related specialty, and five (5) years of progressively responsible engineering experience in the design, construction or operation of a large scale water treatment and pumping plant, two (2) years of which shall have been in a responsible supervisory or administrative capacity; OR,
B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or N.Y. State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Sanitary Engineering or closely related specialty and six (6) years of progressively responsible engineering experience in the design, construction or operation of a large scale water treatment and pumping plant, two (2) years of which shall have been in a responsible supervisory or administrative capacity; OR
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
