DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is a supervisory position responsible for directing the operations of a large central warehouse and preparing materials for large scale projects. The incumbent must be proficient in Authority processes and have experience in leak repair and line maintenance. Must know and comprehend the extensive range of materials needed to effectively and efficiently perform tasks related to the inspection, service, maintenance and repair of the equipment, water lines and all appurtenances of the distribution system of the Authority and prepare materials for such activities. The job responsibilities include warehouse operations, stock receipts, transport of materials, storage and organization, disbursement and shipping. The incumbent will be responsible for both manual and clerical duties including, but not limited to, preparing requests for quotations, requests for proposals and purchase orders for material purchases. Duties include assisting in developing, implementing, and maintaining the Asset Inventory Management System. The incumbent supervises and may participate in all warehouse activities or acts as an assistant to higher ranking administrative employees in the Stores Department or the Director of Administration and/or their designee. General supervision is received from an employee of higher rank. Supervision may be exercised over a small number of laborers or store clerks. Does work related as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of receiving, storing, maintaining and issuing supplies and equipment pertaining to the installation, extension, maintenance and operation of water transmission, distribution system and appurtenances; thorough knowledge of the needs of the Authority; thorough knowledge of principals and procedures for purchasing involving quotations and public bids; ability to establish and maintain a perpetual inventory control system; good knowledge of office terminology, procedure and equipment; good knowledge of basic arithmetic; good knowledge of methods of maintaining stock records and taking inventory; ability to supervise the maintenance of a warehouse and the filling of requisitions; ability to maintain files and records and to prepare reports; ability to manage computer based requisition and electronic based ordering systems; clear, legible handwriting; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; initiative and resourcefulness; industry and dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) years of experience in office or warehouse work, of which three (3) years includes the purchasing, handling, storing and inventory of supplies or merchandise relating to the water works field, of which six months shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time and /or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
